Software jobs set to rule campus
Even five years back they were the most sought-after candidates for campus recruitment. But, ever since the dramatic nosedive in the recruitment figures in the software engineering segment, they have found few takers.
However, they are again back with a bang this year along with core engineering like mechanical, electrical and civil.
Campus recruitment at city engineering colleges as well as in the state is showing a rise in the demand for computer engineering and core engineering this year. Which means it’s great news for job hopefuls.
The ongoing campus recruitment at Jadavpur University, Bengal Engineering College and other universities in the state is indicating a steady resurgence of IT and four core engineering disciplines — mechanical, electrical, chemical and civil. And every engineering campus is in a buoyant mood at this turnaround.
“Campus recruitment trend at BE College shows that IT is again coming back along with core engineering. IT companies like Cognizant have already recruited many students from our college. This was not happening in the past two years as there was a slowdown in IT, said T.K.Roy, a senior official of BE College.
Around 350 students have been recruited from JU since July this year. “There is an over-all demand for all disciplines of engineering this year. For the past two years there were almost no demands for computer engineering while before that for three-four years there was a predominance of IT. But this year the trend is showing a very positive sign as there are demands for all disciplines, said Rajat Bandopadhyay, registrar, JU. “We expect that IT will come back in a major way within a few years, added Roy.
